Fort Myers Fishing Report 8-1-14

The Bait is starting to show up! This is good news for anglers looking to cast net a few pilchards or Snook candy as i call them. In reality they are candy to just about everything that swims inshore. They have been sporadic the past week but have been around somewhat. Chum a flat and wait, a few little tips for bait fishing is to make sure that the boat is anchored off the stern, that way you can throw the net off the bow, to do so you will have to determine which way the tide is going then set up your anchor off the stern or just drop your power pole.  Pinfish have still been my go to bait because they have been more reliable to find. I stayed down in the south part of the bay this week and it proved successful. Redfish, Snook, and Jacks were the typical catch. Look for Redfishing to get steadily better, we are not far away from fall time (even though it doesn’t feel like it) and that means BIG schools of Redfish will soon be all over our flats in Estero Bay!
