Late season Tarpon are migrating south through our area! They can be found just off the beaches in about 15 feet of water. We have used just about everything to get them to eat and they seem to like crabs and Threadfins best. Although there has been reports of anglers catching a few on artificial lures. Look for rolling fish very early morning or late afternoon (weather permitting). Besides Tarpon there has also been great action inshore fishing for Redfish and Snook. The days are getting shorter and the bays and beaches are truly coming alive with bait and predators. Some of the best months to fish our area are September and October, There is mainly locals around this time of year and that just adds to the great fishing opportunities. Look for Redfish on the flats on the falling tides, use pilchards or pinfish and be patient they tend to “roam” around a flat and not necessarily sit in one spot. Sometimes a cork will be best because it will keep your bait right in front of them. Look for Snook on the beaches and around the bushes close to the passes. Snook season opens up September 1st, but if you are looking to keep and eat one i am not the captain to hire. Snook have rebounded in our area but they are still a precious fish and with all the opportunities to catch other fish to eat there is really no need! Get out and catch some fish this long weekend and as always be safe on the water!

The days are getting shorter! Usually when this starts to happen the fishing really heats up. The fish all have something internally that tells them to go in to major feeding mode. They are trying to fatten up as much as possible before winter. There is massive schools of lady fish around, and mixed in with them are schools of GIANT Jack Crevalle some up to the 20lb range. They are around the passes crashing bait and very easy to find. Like wise the Snook are also on the chew. This is the time of year that 40 to 50 fish days are not uncommon. Snook have been closer to the passes and anywhere there’s structure and moving water. Redfish have been best around the higher stages of the tides and haven’t quite started to school up on our flats yet. Now through November is one of the best times to fish in our area, you have a chance to catch just about anything and in alot of cases numerous fish. The fish will eat any fin fish pretty much right now, with Pinfish and Pilchards being the most common. Its only going to get better folks so get out and catch some fish!

The full moon this week has been great for fishing. Whenever fishing around a full moon it can be tricky to get a bite because the moon is so bright the fish tend to eat better throughout the night and relax during the day. Then again its not always true, the fish ultimately are going to do what they want and that was good for us! The tides were high in the late afternoon this week, they were also abnormally high because of the strong full moon. When this happens its important to remember that you will probably have to get to your high water fishing spots earlier than anticipated. Once the water gets extremely far back in to the bushes it’s almost impossible to get a bait to them. Usually i say last hour and a half or so of the incoming tide is best, but when the tides are this strong i say last two and a half hours, just before the water starts touching the trees. On the outgoing tides fish grass flats and adjacent deep edges. Anglers who follow this will be rewarded with Snook, Reds, Jacks and more. Everything has been eating well recently so there is no shortage of fish species being caught. Pinfish and pilchards are working well, although as always i prefer Pilchards ten to one. You can find the pinfish on the flats by chumming, when using the pinfish try both with a cork and without to see what they like that particular day. Pilchards are sporadically on the beaches and when using them just put them on a 2/0 circle hook through the nose with no weight or cork. Thanks for checking out my Fort Myers Fishing Report 8-14-14, Get out and have some fun fishing beautiful Estero Bay and Fort Myers!

Fishing this week has been very good in Estero Bay and Fort Myers. The Snook have really been eating well with summer time starting to come to a close. They will take a pinfish or a pilchard but as always when available they prefer a pilchard. Bait has been easier to find and pilchards can be found on the beaches again although sporadic. As summer turns in to fall the Redfish will really turn on and start to school up on the grass flats. They are spawning when this happens and anglers can experience some of the best fishing in the state all over our region. Along with the Redfish there is a plethora of other species mixed in as well. Look for Snook and Redfish this time of year around the higher stages of the tides around the bushes. When the tide falls look for them in deeper cuts and grass flats adjacent to channels. Look for fishing to continue to get better as we transition from summer to fall and even in to winter!
